Why a mini fridge isn't a "just use a converter" appliance
It's tempting to treat a mini fridge like a phone charger and grab any cheap converter. But it has the same kind of compressor as a full-size fridge, just smaller. US homes run 110–120V at 60 Hz; most of the world runs 220–240V at 50 Hz. A transformer fixes the voltage but can't change the frequency, so the compressor spins against the wrong timing, runs hotter, and gives out sooner. For something that hums along 24/7, that's a slow, avoidable death.
Some compact units are thermoelectric (no compressor, near-silent). Those have no motor, so frequency doesn't matter — but they still need the right voltage. Buy a 220V model, or run a US one on a small transformer.
