Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) — Option & How It Works

What is the ATS?

An Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is a smart switching device that monitors the utility (mains) power supply. When the normal power fails or drops below acceptable voltage/frequency thresholds, the ATS automatically signals the generator to start, and once the generator output is stable, it transfers the load from the utility supply to the generator supply. When utility power returns and is stable, the ATS switches the load back and the generator is shut down

How this applies with the RT17800SN: 

• When the unit is installed with an ATS, you can have seamless standby power for your home or facility.
• During a mains outage, the ATS detects the failure → the RT17800SN starts automatically → when output is stable at 220 V/50 Hz, ATS switches the house circuits over.
• When mains returns, the ATS switches back to utility, the generator cools down, then shuts off.
