Sony UBP-X800M2 Region free 4k UHD Blu-ray Player Multi Region

The Sony UBP-X800M2 Region Free 4K UHD Blu-ray Player is a high end device meant to provide incredible audio and visuals for your media-viewing experience. With HDR10 and DOLBY VISION(TM) support, you have options as to which technologies you want to utilize. Sony's built-in 4K HDR technology allows viewers to watch 4K UHD Blu-rays on non-4K screens, providing a much better level of detail that one would find in normal Blu-rays. As a result, this Blu-ray player is useful even for those who lack 4K UHD television sets! Sony's patented rigid frame that is seen on their other players is also present, reducing interference and keeping internal components steady. Of course, this player also supports every video, audio, and image format you could possibly desire.

Overview

With a high dynamic range, you get a picture with a lot of contrast and realness.

The 4K Blu-ray discs with High Dynamic Range (HDR) feed your practical television an inconceivably exact, lively image. This gives you a realistic, high-contrast image. The UBP-X800M2 is also prepared for them. The player will display the content that is both the darkest and the brightest side by side, even within the same image, on a compatible Ultra HD television.

Additionally, natural light is being utilized by a growing number of contemporary directors to enhance the authenticity of their films. On the other hand, darker scenes can be hard to see and follow with the wrong TV equipment (perhaps you remember the controversy surrounding the final season of Game of Thrones). You will be able to see the subtleties in scenes with low light levels and shadows thanks to the extremely detailed HDR picture contrast provided by this player on your 4K television.

Sony is still focusing on producing the best 4K video possible

Currently, Sony is committed to 4K Blu-ray. Even though 4K streaming looks great, Ultra HD Blu-ray discs continue to deliver the best picture possible for a 4K Ultra HD TV or 4K projector. Instead of just coming up with a cheap disc spinner and calling it a day, Sony decided to do everything possible. With its full 4K resolution and vibrant color gamut, Ultra HD Blu-ray discs can be played with this well-made home entertainment accessory. The UBP-X800M2 can also play almost any other movie, music, or digital file that is out there, including Netflix® streaming in 4K.

Also a true high-resolution music player

Our high-end audio customers frequently use a Blu-ray player as their primary music source for home stereo systems. The UBP-X800M2's high-quality audio circuitry guarantees that all of your music will sound clear and detailed. It is able to work with CDs, SACDs, and just about any other kind of audio disc. Additionally, audio files, including high-resolution DSD, lossless, and uncompressed formats, can be loaded onto thumb drives using the USB connector.

Sound that helps you get involved in the action

All of the most common movie sound formats are supported. You can send three-dimensional audio formats like DTS or Dolby Atmos® over HDMI: to a receiver that is capable of handling them. This gives you a home theater audio experience that is worthy of the crystal-clear images on your screen.

Utilize Bluetooth to wirelessly beam sound to headphones.

The UBP-X800M2 has Bluetooth built in, so you can send audio from your videos, shows, and other media to Bluetooth headphones. This is ideal for late-night binge watching. You might be able to hear all of the exciting, loud sound effects and all of the speech without disturbing anyone.

Sony's LDAC technology is also present in this player, allowing compatible Sony speakers and headphones to retain more clarity in wireless audio signals. When paired with Sony's best Bluetooth headphones, the WH-1000XM3 wireless noise-canceling headphones, movie soundtracks will therefore sound much clearer.

Dual-band Wi-Fi makes smooth 4K video streaming possible.

Most of the time, Sony Blu-ray players offer a wide range of streaming video services. Additionally, this player offers 4K streaming options to enhance the display of Netflix and Prime Video.

With dual-band MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) Wi-Fi, you can get the strong connection needed for 4K streaming. Sony designed the integrated Wi-Fi antenna to improve reception even at the network's edge. Keep in mind that Sony recommends a 25 Mbps or higher internet connection for 4K streaming.)

Video Section

Playback in Ultra HD 4K and Upscaling: Sony's Ultra HD Blu-ray Player delivers stunning UHD 4K at a resolution that is four times higher than that of full 1080p HD. The result is extremely lifelike images with a level of detail and clarity that has never been seen before. With this UHD Blu-ray Player and your Ultra HD TV, you can even upscale your favorite non-4K video content and watch it in 4K Ultra-HD (3,840 x 2,160).

Connectivity via HDMI: Dual HDMI outputs separate audio and video signals on the Sony UHD Blu-ray player (the HDMI Out 2 outputs no video signal). In addition to supporting the most recent HDMI 2.0b specification, the HDMI Out 1 cable can be used to transport both digital video and audio simultaneously. You can use HDMI Out 2 to only send audio to your AV receiver and HDMI Out 1 to only send video to your Ultra-HD TV. Both of these options are available to you. The resolution of the HDMI output can be set to 4K, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.

Conversion from HDR to SDR: Even on non-HDR televisions, you can enjoy more shadow and highlight detail when watching 4K HDR movies. With Sony's HDR-to-SDR conversion, HDR's extremely wide brightness range is intelligently scaled into an SDR image, preserving excellent picture quality even with standard SDR televisions.

3D-Ready: You can watch movies on 3D Blu-ray discs in full HD 1080p with the Sony UBP-X800M2. An HDTV that is ready for 3D, a 3D emitter, glasses, and a high-speed HDMI cable that supports at least 10.2 Gbps are all necessary for 3D viewing.

BonusView: Certain Blu-ray Disc titles support picture-in-picture with the BonusView feature. While the movie is playing, you can look at additional content in a small window, like commentary from the director or actor.

True Cinema at 24p: Typically, films are recorded at a frame rate of 24 frames per second on film. The UBP-X800M2 does not require any conversion when transferring a movie to Blu-ray Disc at 24 frames per second. If the television supports the 1080p/24 format, this signal will be sent to the screen.

Color deep: The Sony Blu-ray player can handle up to 12 bits of color depth. When the player is connected to a TV that supports Deep Color via HDMI, the color reproduction is more accurate than when it is connected to a TV that does not support Deep Color.

Screen Settings: The Sony UBP-X800M2 Ultra-HD Blu-ray player features the following screen settings:

  • TV Type: You can select a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected Television's screen aspect ratio.
  • Screen Size: For 3D viewing, you will need to set the screen size of your 3D-compatible TV.
  • Screen Format: You can select the display configuration for a 4:3 screen picture on a 16:9 wide screen television. You can choose Full or Normal (select when connected to a TV with a wide mode function; displays a 4:3 screen picture in 16:9 aspect ratio even on a wide-screen TV) or Normal (changes the picture size to fit the screen size with the original picture aspect ratio).
  • DVD Aspect Ratio: You can select the display configuration for playback of 16:9 screen pictures on a 4:3 screen TV. You can select from Letter Box or Pan & Scan.

Color Spaces in BT.2020: Access to a much wider range of colors than conventional TV signals provide is made possible by support for the brand-new BT.2020 color spaces. Content creators can deliver much more saturated and realistic color, including deep aquatic blues, natural greens, and vibrant reds, thanks to the extremely wide color space.

High Dynamic Range, or HDR: The dynamic range of a picture is increased by the use of High Dynamic Range (HDR), which increases the contrast between the lightest whites and the darkest blacks. Regardless of the resolution, every pixel is made more accurate, bringing scenes to life with more detail. The screen's contrast and color spectrum are enhanced by HDR's greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels. The image's subtle nuances, from intricate blacks and shadows to brightest whites and colors to greater depth, are brought to light by the increased contrast. Areas that were previously obscured by shadow and light are now abundant in clarity and detail. HDR movies and TV shows have more brightness, contrast, and color for a more lifelike viewing experience and are closer to the original recording and the director's vision.

  • HDR 10: The most widely used HDR format currently available is HDR 10, an open standard. It supports 1,000 nits and 10-bit color. It tells the player and your television that the video content is encoded using HDR at the beginning of the movie using static metadata. For an entirely new viewing experience, an HDR10 signal has up to 100 times the brightness of a standard (SDR) signal, significantly increasing peak brightness while maintaining deep and highly detailed blacks.
  • HLG: Hybrid-Log Gamma, or HLG, is primarily intended for broadcasts over the air and live video feeds. It is compatible with SDR and does not use pre-encoded metadata. Because of HLG's native compatibility, a lot of the current SDR infrastructure can be used again for HDR in the future. Images with a high dynamic range and a standard dynamic range are combined into a single video signal that can play as HDR on HLG HDR-compatible screens or SDR on screens with SDR capabilities.
  • Dolby Digital: With vivid colors, striking highlights, and deeper blacks, Dolby Vision brings movie scenes to life. Dolby Vision is an HDR solution that makes watching movies in your home more interesting and immersive. Dolby Vision automatically adjusts brightness, color, and contrast for each scene, in contrast to HDR 10, which uses static metadata and HLG, which does not. Every image is mapped to the player's and TV's display capabilities by dynamic metadata, allowing you to see more of the content's intended meaning.

Mode of Cinema Conversion: There are two Cinema Conversion Modes available on the Sony Ultra-HD Blu-ray player: (1) Auto mode automatically determines whether the content is video-based or film-based and switches to the appropriate conversion method. 2) Regardless of the content, the Video mode will always be selected because it is suitable for video-based content.

Video Options: The Sony UBP-X800M2 Ultra-HD Blu-ray player lets you adjust the video in the following ways:

  • Mode for Picture Quality: For various lighting conditions, you can use one of four picture presets—Direct, Brighter, Theater, or Auto—or the Custom mode to manually adjust contrast, brightness, color, and hue.
  • Noise Mitigation: IP Content Noise Reduction improves low-resolution web videos, while BNR reduces the image's mosaic-like block noise, MNR reduces the image's minor noise around the outlines (mosquito noise), and FNR reduces the image's random noise.

Disc & USB Compatibility

Port USB: You can play music, videos, and photos on a USB device that is connected using the USB (type-A) port on the front panel. The player is able to identify devices of the Still Image Capture Devices (SICD) class and Mass Storage Class (MSC) Devices that are compatible with FAT. Up to 500 folders and files can be recognized by the player. You can also watch extra content, like BonusView, on some Blu-ray discs thanks to the USB port. Bonus material and other data from some BD-ROMs can be downloaded to a USB flash drive that has been inserted (minimum 1 GB recommended, sold separately).

Blu-ray in Ultra HD: Compared to standard Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray offers these essential features and advantages.

  • Resolution in 4K: The resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels are supported by Ultra HD Blu-ray. That amounts to 27 times more pixels than standard definition televisions and 4 times more pixels than Full HD televisions.
  • Color gamut expansion: More than 75% of the visible color spectrum can be displayed on Ultra HD Blu-ray; The term for this is "Wider Color Gamut." That is more than twice as wide a color gamut as HDTVs today.
  • High Dynamic Range, or HDR: High Dynamic Range (HDR) video is also supported by Ultra HD Blu-ray. The difference between the screen's brightest whites and darkest blacks is called dynamic range. Scenes with a lot of contrast can be shown with much more clarity and detail thanks to HDR.
  • Realistic, smooth motion: Smoother, more realistic motion is possible thanks to Ultra HD Blu-ray's support for progressive frame rates of 24, 25, 50, and 60 frames per second.
  • Increased Speed and Capacity: There will be dual layer 66 gigabyte discs and triple layer 100 gigabyte discs available for Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs. For 66Gb and 100Gb discs, Ultra HD Blu-ray can stream video at up to 108/128 Mbps.
  • Compatible with the Past: All current Blu-ray and DVD content can be played by Ultra HD Blu-ray players. The player will send out a standard HDTV signal when connected to an existing HDTV television. In order to match the capabilities of the connected television, Ultra HD Blu-ray players will offer down conversion and HDR to SDR conversion functionality in addition to supporting existing Blu-ray media.

Quality Building: The Disk Drive and Heat Sink of the UBP-X800M2 keep your discs and the chassis of the device cool for extended viewing hours and are made of high-quality materials for improved sound quality. The player's one-of-a-kind frame-and-beam chassis has an effective electrical shielding and a rigid structure to prevent small vibrations, ensuring the highest possible sound and picture quality.

Formats for Audio, Video, and Pictures: The following audio, video, and photo files that can be recorded on BD-R/RE, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, and CD-R/RW discs can be played back by the Sony UHD Blu-ray disc player: plus USB memory devices that work.

Digital Direct Streaming (DSD): The Direct Stream Digital (DSD) audio codec provides studio-quality sound, made for High-Resolution Audio in mind. In order to reproduce audio waveforms at a resolution that is higher than that of standard codecs, this 1-bit format makes use of a stream of very high frequency 1s and 0s. The end result is audio that is more crisp and clear at high resolution. DSD 5.6MHz decoding is supported by the UHD Blu-ray player via USB, DLNA, and BD.

Audio Section

A/V Sync: By delaying the sound output in relation to the picture output (0 to 120 milliseconds), AV Sync adjusts the gap between the two.

Digital Coaxial Output: The Sony UBP-X800M2 has a digital output that is coaxial (RCA) and connects via HDMI. You can choose the digital audio format that goes through the coaxial digital output from the Audio menu. In the settings, you can down-mix surround bitstreams to 2-channel PCM audio (up to 24-bit/192kHz) or transfer Dolby Digital and/or DTS sound tracks.

Digital Sound Enhancement Engine HX, or DSEE: The UBP-X800M2 not only plays High-Resolution Audio of studio quality, but it also improves the quality of all of your other music. The enhanced sound quality of CDs, MP3s, and other compressed music files produced by DSEE HX technology restores the full experience of the original recording.

Decoders of surround sound: Dolby Digital and DTS surround processors with support for Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution, and DTS-HD Master Audio are incorporated into the Sony UBP-X800M2 UHD Blu-ray player. DTS-HD, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby TrueHD can only be played back through the player's HDMI port.

  • Master Audio DTS-HD: DTS-HD Master Audio uses lossless compression (Lossless) and has a maximum transmission rate of 24.5 Mbps. Additionally, DTS-HD Master Audio has a maximum sampling frequency of 192 kHz and a maximum of 7.1 ch.
