Type 1 or Type 2 - Which One Is Right for You?

Both types on this page handle the same core job: safely converting voltage so your appliances work wherever you are. The difference comes down to direction.

  • Type 1 Voltage Converters are step-down only. They convert 220V/240V down to 110V/120V. If you're moving from North America to Europe, Asia, or anywhere that runs on higher voltage and want to keep using your existing 110V devices, Type 1 is all you need.
  • Type 2 Voltage Converters do both - step up and step down. They convert 110V to 220V and 220V to 110V, making them the more flexible choice if you're unsure which direction you'll need to go, or if you regularly move between countries with different voltage standards.
