Inputting and outputting 1080p video signals without altering their natural specifications.

The 1080p signal format used by Blu-ray Discs offers the highest image quality among high-definition video sources. The VIERA processor receives 1080p video signals in their original format. It applies optimum signal processing without down-converting to output the same high signal quality.

Up-converts SD video signals to 1080p signals. Delivers pictures as beautiful as those from HD video signals.

The processor converts signals of present TV broadcasts and DVD software to 1080p high-definition video signals. It up-converts the video signals without causing any loss in the signal or image details. It also applies progressive conversion to upgrade 1080i high-definition video signals to 1080p signals. This allows VIERA to render pictures that are more beautiful than the original.

The equivalent of 3,072 steps of gradation express finely nuanced images.

Maximum 16-bit video processing makes it possible to reproduce images with 3,072 equivalent steps of gradation. The picture noise and black blocking that occur with insufficient gradation is suppressed even in scenes with intricate detail, fine textures and subtle expressions. Even the most detailed parts of an image are rendered with beautiful smoothness.

Increased luminous efficiency achieves maximum contrast of 10,000:1.

The ability to express rich, deep blacks is extremely important for displaying beautiful pictures. VIERA uses the Real Black Drive System to minimise pre-discharge emission and improve the expression of black colours. In addition, the Deep Black Filter for the front protective glass further enhances rendering abilities to deliver richer, deeper blacks. The VIERA screen also minimises glare even in well-lit rooms to ensure high picture quality.

VIERA Can Control Your Entire home Cinema System.

An HDMI cable carries not only digital video and audio signals, but control signals too. That means you can use your VIERA remote control to operate a DVD recorder, HD video camera and other equipment connected to your VIERA TV. For example, use your VIERA remote to control a recording operation with your DVD recorder or to start and stop playback of scenes from a video camera. With VIERA, extra ease and convenience are part of the entertainment package.

Put it Anywhere: The 3.9" deep TH-42PV70  gives you the luxury of choosing between hanging your TV on the wall or placing it on a stand.

Bright and Vivid Picture: The Panasonic TH-42PV70  offers unrivaled picture quality for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to plasma technology you can view images with amazing clarity, brightness, and contrast. The TH-42PV70  can display up to 1,070 million colors and is one of the brightest displays with a contrast ratio of 10000:1. All this leads to a much more vivid television experience.

16:9 Wide Screen
You no longer have to deal with cropped off images while watching some of your favorite movies. With its wide screen 16:9 aspect ratio you can now watch movies in their original format. In fact, the 16:9 aspect ratio is one of the most important aspects of the TH-42PV70  since all future HDTV signals will be broadcast in this format.

Cure for Sore Eyes
Traditionally, video signals are transmitted using an interlacing format where two separate frames are transposed to create one single frame. This results in flicker that can lead to eye fatigue and soreness. This flicker problem is eliminated with the progressive scanning process where video images are transmitted in one single complete frame. The TH-42PV70  is compatible with all progressive scanning signals from high quality DVD players and HDTV decoders, and other high-end video equipment to produce brilliant flicker-free images.

PC Ready
The TH-42PV70  is PC ready. You now have the ability to use your plasma TV with any SXGA, XGA, SVGA, or VGA computer video signals*. With Panasonic's TH-42PV70  you not only have a TV, but a 42" computer monitor as well.

Digital Television for Today and Tomorrow
The Panasonic TH-42PV70  allows you to enjoy your favorite TV programming today while being prepared for the future. The TH-42PV70  is an HDTV monitor and can support both HDTV (1080p, 1080i and 720p) and EDTV/SDTV (480p and 480i) input signals**. This allows you to enjoy the shows of today, with much better picture quality, and be prepared for the future of HDTV offerings.
