Purchased this player over the phone. It was brand new and the sales guy recommended it to me as a excellent player. I was a bit leery as they didn't have it on the website, but it turned out to be everything he said and more. I am truly impressed, it plays all my dvd's from England as well as USA with great quality. even burned dvd-r and cdr played perfect.

Played all my region 1, 2, and 4 dvd movies with no problem. I don't even have an HD tv yet, and the quality of the picture was excellent even on the foreign movies. Played some duplicates that wouldn't play on my other sony player as well.

Excellent value: offers a lot for the price. HIGH DEFINITION Quality picture and excellent sound. Plays all my European dvd movies, I've checked and indeed enjoyed watching American and Canadian as well as Europeans (France, UK, Romania, Russia) DVD's. CD, CD/MP3s ok. I haven't checked recorded DVD's yet. Loads very fast ! Buy it, especially if you need an additional DVD player capable to handle and play NTSC or PAL format multi zone coded DVD's on an NTSC TV. Oh, I tried it With a Normal NON HD TV and the Picture quality was great. I then tried it with my HD LCD TV. This picture quality on that TV was amazing. The clarity with the high definition 1080i signal through the component output looked excellent. We had family over for Christmas who were impressed with the quality of European movies on the TV.

This is an excellent dvd player to start with from Pioneer. The extra code free features and Pal to NTSC converter by International video make it a must have for foreigners. We have movies from all parts of the world. It was hard to find one player that played everything with good quality. This one does the trick in style. The picture is great great. We ended up buying to. One is on a 60" DLP tv, and the other is on a old tv that needs to be replaced soon. The picture was great even on my old tv, i was surprised.
IT does everything they say and more. Speedy delivery, double boxed, free cables.. whatmore can you ask for.
Plays my Pal region 2, and NTSC region 1 movies, along with many others
with perfect picture quality. I can see things that I never saw before. I
was watching a old DVD movie and I could even see notes that an actor had
written inside a locker when he was opening it. That was definitely not
meant to be seen.
I'm 73 years young, and my sales rep Nick recommended me this player for my Plasma tv my son gave me for my Birthday. He told me All I need to do is connect one cable. It was very hard to believe, but I just have one HDMi cable connected to my tv, and it plays everything. It plays my European movies and cartoons for the grandkids, it plays USA movies, and much more. The free hdmi cable was given to me by the sales rep at no charge.
Free HDMI can Component cables are good quality. The player is excellent.
The 6 ft cable allowed me to easily connect my player to the tv. Fast

I was a bit hesitant at first because the player was not actually on the Internet when I bought it. It works very well though. I was thinking of going with the Toshiba, but I ended up getting this one because I had a bad experience with Toshiba in the past. So far I really like the player.
I tried dvds from all over the world that I had. From UK, Germany, China. The UK and German ones played in my other code free player, but the Chinese ones always skipped and froze up at placed. I have the entire season of a TV sereis 24 on a dvd from China. It didn't play on any player, but this one played it. I was very surprised. I have yet to find a disc that it doesn't play. Thanks for your service, I will probably be back to buy another one.
The most frustrating thing for me when buying discs on the internet was checking to make sure they would play on a region 1 dvd player. And if that wasn't enough, I had to also check what TV system Pal, NTSC or Secam they were. With this new player I can watch any disc. So If I like a movie I just buy it.

This player has excellent picture quality as well as sound, and it plays all the dvd movies. Any region, even -r and +r which skipped on my Toshiba player, play on this one perfectly. HDMI cable is also better quality than I expected. You guys Rock!!!

I'm not usually the type of person that will write a review, but I was really happy with the deal. HDMI cable that was free was actually a good quality instead of a crappy one that are usually included for free with players. The player also worked like a jewel. Thanks.
It gets by all the regional blocking and plays all my DVD movies which are a collection from all different parts of the world. Even my bootleg Chinese disks play which didn't play on my other Panasonic dvd player.
Does everything they say, plays all dvd movies.. bootlegs, rerecorded discs, originals, any region, pal, ntsc everything that I had worked. I was truly impressed.
I'm a Brit in America and this is just what I needed. I tried a Philips player in the past, but the picture quality wasn't that great. This one works perfect and the picture is really really good. I watch my British movies and American ones too. It also play Dual Layer discs which is a hard to find feature in dvd players. My philips didn't play the dual layer discs that I made on my computer. I good purchase.
I bought this player because it seemed like a good deal. However I've bought stuff in the past online that looks really good, but when you get it, it's really not all that. This player lived up to it's reputation, and it does everything they say. It plays foreign movies great, and it's easy to use, even by my 8 year old.
I just wanted to write to you to tell you how pleased I am with my new Pioneer DV-490 Region-Free DVD player. My wife is Russian, and in the past we had to watch Russian movies on the computer, connected to the TV. Now I can watch my US, Japanese, and Chinese DVDs and my wide can watch her Russian DVDs. I have to really give it up to you guys. When I was searching for a region free player, I was totally confused. I saw players for $50-1000. I didn't know what to buy. I know the real cheap ones won't last because I already have a Toshiba I bought for $79 that broke down. However I didn't want to spend $1000 either. I called in and was recommended to buy this player. I was truly amazed by the picture quality. Even when I played my Pal movies, I didn't see any picture quality loss from the conversion. I am 110% satisfied, and will be referring many friends..
I'm a buyer for the Language dept at a university in NY. We have gone through many players through the years. Sampo, Daewoo, Toshiba, Cyberhome, JVC, and many others. My favorite till date was the JVC, but they don't have HDMI outputs. So the ones that interested me were the Toshiba 860 or the Pioneer 490. I ordered both to test them because Nick had asked me to give the Pioneer a try, and the Toshiba seemed to have a attractive price. The Pioneer won this race by far. DVD-r and +R playback is much smoother on the Pioneer. The Pioneer also does a fantastic job of the pal to ntsc conversion. Setup is a breeze, and operations are self explanatory. To top it all off, the price is great. We will be buying more of these!
Player arrived in perfect condition, and played all my movies from England that were region 2 pal. I hooked it up with the provided HDMI cable. I'm a pleased customer, and will be buying one more player from you for my inlaws.
This is a great little gadget that does the job when it comes to playing discs. It play divx, +r -r and any other burned dvd in put in there. I got it hooked up to a regular non flat screen tv. I will be upgrading probably when the TVs get cheaper in a few year, until then my 32" Sony is serving me well. Used the provided yellow/red/white cables and the picture is really good. I don't even use the HD cable yet.
Player is wonderful. Plays all my discs. haven't had any problems. So far it's a winner.

I have purchased a code free/region free dvd player from 220 many years ago and it is still working but I felt it was time to upgrade to a HDMI unit for my HDTV. I purchased the Pioneer 490V which came very quickly and well packed with all the necessary cables plus the DVI adapter I ordered for my big screen tv. Setup was only minutes and the player is excellent. Picture quality is truly remarkable. In fact if you are used to VCD or SVCD you might find they are now looking pretty poor compared to any dvd you play. This also plays dvd dual layers. if you make those yourself and again the quality is like those from a dvd store. The Pioneer sound quality is really great but of course depends on the dvd. The better the dvd the better the sound. If you are looking for the best dvd player that will play any dvd from around the world plus any dvd or disc you make yourself and want the best overall picture and sound quality then purchase this Pioneer player from 220-electronics. Best price with everything you need to be up and ready in minutes.

Hooked it up to my plasma tv with Hdmi and it works awesome . Fast shipping, Good product, great customer support, tracking number emailed, packaged good, and picture quality is great, on foreign and USA movies. Some other company was trying to sell me a 110-220 volts model and tell me a bunch of crap about how the 110 volts model has a bad Pal to NTSC converter. I ended up buying the 110 volts model with the Free cables, and it has such a great converter, you can't even tell the difference if you are playing a PAL movie or a NTSC movie.

I just purchased the Pioneer DV-490V on Wednesday, and it arrived on
Friday afternoon (incredibly fast!!). I got it set up in less than 5
minutes, and it plays everything I throw at it. I tested with a Region 2
disc from Germany - flawless, and an MP3 CD - perfect. I even tested out an
AVI file I burned to CD (which didn't play in my former region free Daewoo
DVD-5800). This will play anything I throw at it.
