DVD Features

HD Upconversion: The SD-V592 has the ability to upconvert a standard DVD signal to HD-compatible 720p or 1080i and pass it through the HDMI output; upconverted signals are not passed by the component video output.

Audio D/A Converter: The SD-V592 has a 192kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converter for superb audio reproduction.

Video D/A Converter: This unit uses a 54MHz/10-bit video digital-to-analog converter, which reduces digital artifacts for a better picture and provide unsurpassed color purity, color detail and resolution.

Progressive Scan Output: Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. The component outputs on this unit can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3/WMA audio files recorded onto CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 format. Compatible bit rates include 8-320 kbps for MP3 and 32-192 kbps for WMA. Each disc can have no more than 650 files.

JPEG Disc Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 format. All JPEG files on a disc can be played back in a slide show. The speed of the slide show can be set to Fast, Normal, or Slow. Additionally, you can zoom in on any selected image, or rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise. Each disc can have a maximum of 650 folders and files.

3D Sound: When playing a DVD, Video CD, or CD, you can engage the 3D Sound to simulate the 3-dimensional effect of being in a cinema or concert hall with only 2 speakers.

Zoom: The Zoom feature allows you to get an increasingly close-up view of the image. Each press of the Zoom button changes the magnification to 400%, 1600%, or Screen Fit. You can also move the zoomed image around the screen.

Resume Play: Resume play allows you to resume playback of a disc from the point where you last stopped. The stopping point is cleared when the Stop button is pressed more than once or the disc tray is opened.

Bookmark: This function allows you to store bookmarks on a disc that can be easily recalled. You can bookmark up to 9 scenes at a time.

Karaoke: When playing a Dolby Digital Karaoke DVD disc, you can turn on/off the vocals from the menu.

Note: This unit does not have a microphone jack.

Dynamic Range Control (DRC): You can turn the DRC on or off in the menu. When turned on, loud sounds, such as an explosion, are toned down slightly when played back. When off, the audio plays back at the recording level on the disc. This function only works with Dolby Digital-encoded discs.

Parental Lock Function: You can select a parental control rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.

VCR Features

Recording Note: This unit can record non-copy-protected DVDs and Video CDs to VHS. Internal DVD-to-VHS dubbing of copy-protected DVDs is not possible.

Simultaneous Record and Playback: You can play a DVD at the same time you record a TV program on the VCR.

Super VHS Quasi Playback: This feature allows you to play S-VHS recordings using a standard VHS VCR. When S-VHS recordings are played, they are displayed with standard VHS resolution.

Note: The unit will not record in the S-VHS format.

19-micron Heads: The 19-micron heads help to avoid crosstalk and boost EP picture quality to near SP levels.

Auto Clock Set: The time and date can be set automatically using data transmitted over most PBS stations.

Auto Daylight Saving Time: This feature allows the unit to read the XDS time signals and automatically adjust for daylight saving time. This feature can be turned on or off.

Video Index Search System: The Index Search function automatically records an index mark on the tape whenever a recording is initiated. When you are looking for a particular recording, you can skip up to 99 index marks in either direction.

Instant Skip: This feature allows you to fast forward the tape in 30-second increments each time you press the button. You can press the button a maximum of 6 times, allowing you to advance up to 3 minutes ahead.

Timer Recording: You can program the VCR's timer to record up to 8 broadcasts, as far as a year in advance. You can also record programs on a weekly or daily basis.

One-touch Timer Recording (OTR): Using One-touch Timer Recording, you can instantly start recording with one press of a button. Each additional press of the OTR button will enter a recording time in 30-minute increments up to 9 hours.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface): The unit's HDMI simplifies A/V connections by carrying video and digital audio all in one cable. This unit features HDCP copyright protection technology, and must be connected to an HDCP-compliant device.

DVD Video Out: The DVD video signal is output through the RF, composite, S-video and component video outputs.

VCR Video Outputs: The VCR video output signals are fed through the RF and composite outputs only.

Front Panel Inputs: This unit features an A/V input with stereo RCA audio jacks and a composite video jack. If you connect a camcorder with a single mono audio plug, it can be plugged into the left channel jack and the signal will be fed to both channels on the recording
