Audiophiles will appreciate Denon's
AL24 Plus processing, which brings out all of the nuances in your music
with optimum clarity. Denon Link allows this DVD player to pass SACD and
DVD-Audio signals to a compatible Denon receiver. This is a noise-free
connection, so you'll get uncompromised sound with your high-resolution
audio discs. The DVD-2930CI also does a great job with regular CDs and
those loaded with MP3 and WMA (Windows® Media Audio) files.
Denon Link
(3rd Edition): The DVD-2930CI has an RJ-45 Denon Link 3rd Edition
output. Through the Denon Link, the DVD player can transfer 6-channel
96kHz/24-bit or two channel stereo 192kHz/24-bit DVD-Audio signals, as
well as 2-channel and multi-channel SACD signals, digitally to a
receiver. Because the signal transfer is balanced and the voltage is
lower than coaxial or unbalanced cables, the Denon Link is far less
susceptible to radiated noise, which helps to ensure the highest level
of signal transfer. Denon Link 3rd Edition uses a different signal from
Denon Link S.E. (Second Edition). Because of this, the Denon Link 3rd
Edition signals are only compatible with A/V receivers that are Denon
Link 3rd compatible. In the Digital Interface Setup, you can select the
type of signal output through the Denon Link jack: 3rd, 2nd, or Off. If
the unit is set to 2nd Edition signals, there will be no output from an
SACD.
HDMI: The
unit's HDMI jack passes both digital video and audio using a single
cable. HDMI Version 1.1 is compatible with copy protected DVDs with HDCP
and CPPM (Content Protection for Pre-recorded Media/used in DVD-Audio),
which was not the case with version 1.0. You can select the type of
video signal output by the HDMI jack: 480i/576i, 480p/576p, 720p, 1080i,
or 1080p.
10-Bit I/P
Converter: Conversion from interlaced to progressive (I/P Converter)
video is accomplished using a 10-bit converter developed by Silicon
Optics and Denon. This 10-bit processing offers high conversion
performance and dramatically improves motion detection capability.
Multi-Directional Diagonal Filter (MDDF): MDDF detects and corrects
at a pixel-level the directionality of lines, avoiding the "jaggies"
often seen in supposedly straight diagonal lines.
Denon Pixel
Image Correction (DPIC): Also built on a 10-bit platform, DPIC's
pixel by pixel correction compares nine different pixels of adjacent
video data for each pixel correction. Luminance and chroma signals are
also processed to suppress ringing noise and other artifacts.
Video Scaler:
The video scaler upconverts standard DVD signals to HD-compatible
720p, 1080i, or 1080p, and passes it through the HDMI output.
Upconverted signals are not passed by the component video outputs.
Dual Discrete
Video Circuit (DDVC): Isolated video circuits for interlaced and
progressive signals improve video precision.
Video D/A
Converters: The
DVD-2930CI uses a 12-bit, 216-MHz video D/A converter to tap the maximum
potential DVD has to offer. This converter provides a high sampling
frequency of 216-MHz, with 8x oversampling for Progressive video and 16x
oversampling for Interlaced video, resulting in the most detailed D/A
conversion.
Noise Shaped
Video (NSV): The NSV feature works in the digital domain to reduce
noise in the video signal frequency band, improving video signal to
noise ratio and enhancing video signal linearity.
HDCD Decoder:
HDCD (High Definition Compatible Digital) is a digital audio recording
technology, compatible with the conventional CD format. It significantly
reduces distortion during recording to expand the dynamic range and
realize higher resolution than standard CD. The HDCD decoder allows the
DVD-2930CI to play discs that have been recorded in HDCD format and to
bring out superior sonic performance from these discs. Combined with
Denon's advanced audio technology, the DVD-2930CI masterfully reproduces
HDCD's rich dynamic range and beautiful sound quality.
Speaker
Configuration: During the
initial set up it is possible to set the speaker size, distance, and
crossover point. The crossover point for bass management can be fixed at
40, 60, 80, 100 or 120 Hz.
Multi-channel
DVD-Audio Playback: DVD-Audio is a multi-channel format used for
high resolution audio recording. This unit can decode and play DVD-Audio
discs with a sampling rate up to 192 kHz with a 24-bit word length.
SACD:
Unlike PCM based technology (CD/MiniDisc/DVD/Audio DVD, etc.), Super
Audio CD is based on Direct Stream Digital (DSD)
encoding, which does not require decimation and interpolation filters.
DSD is much simpler and enables a 1-bit signal to be recorded directly.
DSD encodes music at 2,822,400 samples per second (64 times that of
standard CD) allowing you to hear sound with incredible detail and
clarity. DSD combines the advantages of digital recording with the best
characteristics of analog sound. The DVD-2930CI unit will play 2-channel
and multi-channel Super Audio CDs. During SACD playback, the optical
digital and coaxial outputs do not operate. The Digital Link 3rd output
or analog outputs must be used to listen to SACDs.
AL24
Processing for All Channels:
Denon has further developed its proprietary AL24 Processing, an analog
waveform reproduction technology, to support the 192 kHz sampling
frequency of DVD-Audio. This new technology, AL24 Processing Plus,
thoroughly suppresses quantization noise associated with D/A conversion
of LPCM signals to reproduce the low-level signals with optimum clarity.
Additionally AL24 expands original PCM 16-bit recordings to 24-bit word
length using interpolation algorithms developed by Denon. The result is
a more natural reproduction of spatial information and clarity that will
bring out all the delicate nuances of the music.
Pure Direct
Mode: The DVD-2930CI
includes two Pure Direct modes that further improve sound quality.
During analog audio output, Pure Direct can turn off digital signal
outputs, video signal outputs, and the front panel display, which can
easily influence the sound quality of the analog audio signals. You can
define which operations are to be turned off and store those preferences
in memory.
MP3/WMA
Playback: This unit will play MP3 files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW
discs using the ISO 9660 level 1 format (128 kbps and faster
recommended). Windows Media Audio (WMA9) is also supported using a
compression rate from 64-160 kbps.
JPEG Disc
Playback: JPEG files
stored on CD-Rs and CD-RWs can be played as a slide show and enjoyed on
your TV using the DVD-2930CI. Kodak picture CDs and Fujicolor CDs are
also supported. During slide show playback, you can rotate an image
90-degrees clockwise or counterclockwise, flip an image vertically or
horizontally, or zoom in on an image. In addition, you can play the
pictures in random order.
Surround Sound
Processors: Along with the multi-channel processors for DVD-Audio
and SACD, Dolby Digital and DTS surround decoders are built in.
Picture
Zooming: During
DVD-Video and Video CD playback, you can enlarge the picture by 1x, 2x,
or 3x. You can then use the cursor buttons to move the enlarged viewing
area up, down, left, or right.
Markers:
Up to 8 points on a DVD-Video disc can be stored in memory and easily
recalled. Markers are automatically cleared when the power is turned off
or when the tray is opened.
Resume Function:
The Resume function allows the player to remember the point
where you stopped play. Playback will resume from the point stored in
memory. The stopping point is cleared if the tray is opened or the stop
button is pressed a second time.
Auto
Power-Off: If the unit is in stop mode for approximately 30 minutes,
it will automatically switch to standby mode.
Dimmer:
The display can be adjusted to one of three brightness levels, or the
display can be turned off.
